Gospel of the Holy Spirit, The: Meditations and Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Judges and Ruth Philippians, Colossions, Philemon: Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture
By Alfred McBride, O. Praem.

Written by St. Luke, Acts of the Apostles is often referred to as the Gospel of the Holy Spirit. In our new title, The Gospel of the Holy Spirit: Meditations and Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles, Fr. Alfred McBride guides the reader through this great book of the New Testament, verse by verse, illuminating its great meaning for Catholics of all times.

While the Old Testament was God the Father speaking to his people, and the New Testament was God the Son speaking to his people, McBride shows how Acts is the revelation of God the Holy Spirit.

The Gospel of the Holy Spirit: Mediation and Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles is a scholarly, yet immensley accessible, study of the Acts of the Apostles. It highlights the deep theological and spiritual meaning of Acts and shows the vibrant life of the early Church and its leaders, on fire with love for Christ. And it shows that the Holy Spirit was - and is - an active caretaker of Christ's Church and its people.

Popular Scripture study, with Dr. Scott Hahn as General Editor. In this addition to the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, Dennis Hamm explores the significance of Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon and the enduring relevance of these letters to the life and mission of the church. Based on solid scholarship yet readily accessible, this book is enriched with pastoral reflections and applications and includes sidebars on the living tradition and biblical background.
Acts of the Apostles: Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture Revelation: Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture Gospel of John, The: Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture
New Testament scholar William Kurz offers a close reading and explanation of the entire narrative of Acts, grounded in the original Greek but keyed to the NABRE for liturgical use. This volume, like each in the series, relates Scripture to life, is faithfully Catholic, and is supplemented by features designed to help readers understand the Bible more deeply and use it more effectively.
In this addition to the well-received Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture (CCSS), seasoned New Testament scholar and popular speaker Peter Williamson interprets Revelation from within the living tradition of the Church for pastoral ministers, lay readers, and students alike. The series, which will cover the entire New Testament, relates Scripture to Christian life today, is faithfully Catholic, and is supplemented by features designed to help readers understand the Bible more deeply and use it more effectively in teaching, preaching, evangelization, and other forms of ministry. Drawn from the best of contemporary scholarship, series volumes are keyed to the liturgical year and include an index of pastoral subjects. In this addition to the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, two well-respected New Testament scholars interpret the Gospel of John in its historical and literary setting as well as in light of the Church's doctrinal, liturgical, and spiritual tradition. They unpack the wisdom of the Fourth Gospel for the intellectual and spiritual transformation of its readers and connect the Gospel with a range of witnesses throughout the whole history of Catholicism. This volume, like each in the series, is supplemented by features designed to help readers understand the Bible more deeply.

This volume of the Navarre Bible commentaries sheds light on the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. The Psalms aside, the books of the prophets are the Old Testament sources most often referred to in the New. Their message covers all aspects of Israelite and Christian faith - belief in One God, his chosen people, the Messiah and the path to salvation. Like all the books in the Navarre series, this edition will help to deepen your understanding of these sacred texts. This book completes the Navarre Bible Old Testament series. This book, a companion volume to Gospels and Acts and Revelation, Hebrews and Catholic Letters, is an omnibus edition compromising four titles in the Navarre Bible New Testament. These are: Romans and Galatians, Corinthians, Captivity Letters (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon), and Thessalonians and Pastoral Letters, all the texts directly attributed to St. Paul. Like the Gospels and Acts, this edition contains these New Testament books and commentary in one convenient volume. This volume, which follows the pattern of the highly successful Navarre Bible New Testament, consists of the Revised Standard Version and the New Vulgate with a Commentary by members of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Navarre, Spain.

Whereas the first five books of the Old Testament - the Pentateuch - record the Law of Moses in the form of commandments, the Wisdom Books propound that teaching in the form of counsels and proverbs. They also reveal the close connection between knowledge that comes through faith, and knowledge acquired through human reasoning.

The book of Job takes the form of a narrative - the story of an upright man who experiences misfortune after misfortune; to a degree, it lifts the veil that shrouds the mystery of suffering. The book of Ecclesiastes ("All is vanity...") helps the believer to appreciate the value of heavenly things. Proverbs consists of seven collections of wise sayings from the ancient East. The Wisdom of Solomon, which probably originated in the Jewish community of Alexandria (Egypt), interfaces with the world of Greek culture. Sirach, written by someone steeped in the wisdom tradition of Israel, was much used by the early Fathers of the Church.

Reading and reflecting on the Wisdom Books helps to prepare the human mind and spirit to receive the Lord and to understand his teaching.
